The 2018 Chevrolet Bolt is an exciting and much anticipated electric vehicle that is set to go up against the Tesla Model 3 and the all-new Nissan Leaf. The Bolt is a four-door, battery-powered hatchback. It is marketed to be more substantial than the Chevy Spark EV.
According to Car and Driver, the new Chevy electric vehicle is an excellent addition to the current compact electric cars. It is a more "affordable" option compared to the Tesla Model 3. While the Nissan Leaf is at a lower price point, its current range is nowhere near the 200-mile range of the Bolt and the Tesla.
The new Bolt will have a small-car architecture similar to the Sonic sedan and hatchback. In fact, it will likely come from the same plant in Detroit that is in charge of the Sonic and Buick Verano. Additionally, Business Insider also reported that the car will have plenty of tech features, such as wireless charging, a mobile app that is always connected via low-energy Bluetooth, and five cameras. The new EV will look tiny on the outside but will be spacious and comfortable on the inside.
The new Chevrolet Bolt will have a compact electric motor and direct-drive gearbox. It will likely be an evolved version of the Spark EV's, but with a much bigger lithium-ion battery pack. GM is yet to reveal the cell type as well as the location and configuration of the battery pack.
According to Car Advice, General Motors plans to launch thousands of self-driving all-electric Chevy Bolts by 2018. The company intends to partner up with Lyft. Moreover, the automakers have stated that they have no plans yet to sell the autonomous Bolts to the general public.
With this latest development, does this mean that the Bolt will only be available for Lyft? Or will GM reconsider in the future and sell the new EV to the general public? Hopefully, the new Bolt will be made available to all. The 2018 Chevrolet Bolt will likely have a price tag of around $30,000. It is confirmed to come out sometime next year.
