Five luxury cars were stolen from a high-end dealership in the neighborhood of Libertyville, Chicago last weekend. This is the latest reported incident from a string of robberies on luxury car dealerships in the Chicago area.
According to Chicago Tribune, the robbery was phoned in to the Libertyville police by eyewitness motorists at 11:20 pm, when they saw the luxury cars leaving the dealership at top speed and without headlights. Libertyville Officer Lt. Bill Kinast said they couldn't find the stolen cars at the Interstate 94. However, moments later, they got a call from the Racine County Sheriff's Office in Wisconcin saying that they located a car similar to the reported stolen one posh cars.
The Daily Herald reported that the Racine County Sheriff's Office police officers spotted the stolen vehicles along the Interstate 94 minutes after the break-in. Country police officers put spike trips along the highway to slow down the luxury cars.
One of the Racine Country officers managed to slow down one of the escaping vehicles but it accelerated. But the stolen vehicle hit one of the spikes along the road, hit another car and ended up in a ditch. Two of the suspects inside the car were seen running away from the scene of the accident.
Meanwhile, CBS News reported that Gregori Infiniti was the name of the high-end dealership that was robbed during the weekend. The cars that were driven off were a 2016 Infiniti QX60 ($47,058), 2016 Infiniti QX70 ($50,357), 2016 Infiniti QX50 ($47,058), 2015 Infiniti QX50 ($42,425), and a 2013 Infiniti G37 ($18,551). The total value of the cars was more than USD205,000, according to Gregori Infiniti owner Gregory Mauro.
Mauro said at least six people were reported to have entered the dealership, breaking the glass door at the extreme north end of the shop to get in. He also said they forgot some of the keys in the stolen cars, thereby giving the robbers an easier chance to drive off with the cars.
County officers said the suspects are still at large and have a big suspicion that they are the same ones responsible for the spate of the luxury cars robbery earlier in Chicago.
