2017 Audi Q2: A Big Surprise In A Small Package

Following the reveal of the 2017 Audi Q2, the SUV was widely praised by many motoring analysts as a car that has a Mini touch to it. The concept car was hailed for its fashionable exterior which, analysts agree, will give buyers a lot of customizable options ranging from trim, color, and equipment.

Audi said that the original plan for the Q2 was to design it with a Mini flair. However, the automaker admits that what was supposed to be a trendy and tiny SUV turned into a larger car during the development phase. Based on Audi's comments, and also with the help of a couple of photos released by the company, the Audi Q2 appears to be sandwiched in between the Q3 and the A3 hatchback models.

The 2017 Audi Q2 is well below the Q3 in terms of price and size. However, a closer look at the specifications and one can tell that the difference is not entirely large. The Q2 is just 197mm shorter that the Q3, and the two cars virtually share the same wheelbase. In terms of cargo space, the Audi Q2 has 405 liters which is down by 55 from the Q3's 460 liters, according to Stuff.

Under the hood, the 2017 Audi Q2 TFSI launch model packs a 1.4-liter engine. Priced at $41,100, this model packs 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque. This is considered as the base model of the Q2 and will have a front-wheel drive, according to Car Advice.

Up a notch is the 2017 Audi Q2 TDI Quattro model which packs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The engine has 110kW of power and 340Nm of torque all delivered into a four-wheel-drive drivetrain. This model costs $47,900 and is expected to be released later this year.

On top of the list is the 2017 Audi Q2 Launch Edition. It has a 1.4-liter engine and a price tag of $49,900. All three models of the Q2 will be equipped with a seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission.
