Ford seems to have plans for the GT model. A new version of GT, which is much lighter, might be announced soon. The new car will be released in the "competition series" model.

The reports suggest that the Ford GT user manual already suggests the upcoming model as there are places where "competition series" is mentioned. It does seem that Ford is focused on reducing the weight of the upcoming model. The main difference in the new GT model will be the rear hatch.

The manual of the Ford GT mentions the new model in a couple of places. To make the new design desirable to its plans, Ford has used a totally different key fob. The new model will not have a remote hatch release. Also, it will also not have the "key-blade" which is used for opening the hatch manually inside the fob. Instead, the automaker has provided a traditional key for the external latch, reported AutoBlog.

Ford, very cleverly has done away with the features with the new GT model as it will now become compatible with the new design. The new GT has its rear hatch fastened with a locking AeroCatch-style hood pin latch.

It should be mentioned here that the latch system of the new car is different from the GTE race car. This is what hinted that the new car is a totally different GT model and it could be focused on making the car much lighter, reported Auto Sports.

Another difference that the GT will sport is that the rear hatch will not hold itself open. The hatch will be held up with the help of a two-piece prop and the tensioners which are now being used to hold the hatch is removed. The reason behind this change is not known clearly.

Ford has not provided any update on the new GT model yet. The specifications and the other characteristics of the car will be known after an official statement has been released.
