The 2017 Honda Civic Type R will finally grace retailers in the North America for the first time. But first, the hotly anticipated production version of this forbidden fruit will hit the 2017 Geneva Motor Show this March.
Since Honda has confirmed that the highly anticipated model will be sold in Australia, the Japanese company has promised that they will be bringing the performance model to US shores. This definitely marks the first time a Honda brand type R reaches American soil.
First unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the production-ready version will be at the Geneva Motor Show, although it will only be available as a hatchback. The coupe and sedan versions will be available for these lesser Honda Civic models.
It is notable that the styling of the upcoming 2017 Honda Civic Type R will be a bit toned down, compared with the concept car. However, it will surely stick closely to it. Smoked lenses for the LED headlights, aggressive hood scoop, carbon fiber splitter, bold rear spoilers, and extended wheel arches will probably be retained for the production model.
Honda has not released official numbers for the 2017 Honda Civic Type R. But it will need serious powertrains as the outgoing Type R boasts a 305 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60mph of 5.7 seconds.
According to Digital Trends, the 2017 Honda Civic Type R could sport a tuned up version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, similar to other versions, that could produce 320 horses. It could come in a front wheel drive version with a limited-slip differential.
In Honda other news, two other vehicles will make its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, reports MotorTrend. Honda's NeuV is an automated concept designed to pick up and drop off customers at their local destinations. One of the highlights of this concept is its "emotion engine." It is a set of AI tech able to detect human emotions and could make appropriate suggestions to passengers. Another vehicle joining the NeuV at the Motor Show is the Clarity Fuel Cell.
The 2017 Honda Civic Type R production is slated to begin this summer in Swindon, UK, Honda's manufacturing facility. Honda's hotly anticipated vehicle will definitely capture the hearts of US enthusiasts who have been waiting for a very long time for the Type R to make a US debut.
