Xiaomi defeats Apple in China’s Smartphone Market; Huawei Takes The Top Spot

Xiaomi took over the 4th place in market sales and surprisingly Apple is now facing downturn as it continues to slide in 5th. This is according to recent figures made by Canalys, a market research firm.

According to the figures by Canalys, Apple loses its 4th place position to Xiaomi whereby the company sold over 51.4 million smartphones against the 43.8 million units sold by Apple. In the previous year, Apple has already suffered a decline in the smartphone market in China because they have been outsold by cheaper smartphone options in the market. Aside from that the iPhone 7 failed to impress and spark the interest of the consumers as compare to its previous launches.

The decline of Apple's sales may have also been due to consumers anticipation of the launch of the brand new iPhone 8 this 2017. If this launch will become successful then this would definitely be a whole new ball game for Apple and it might help them boost its sales.

Meanwhile, the Chinese manufacturer Huawei is enjoying its success as they have sold over 76.2 million units in 2016. This has increased more than 10 million and allowed them to take first place in the market.

Doing great as well is Oppo taking 2nd place, with 73.2 million units sold in 2016, very much close to Huawei. Another company with an incredible sales growth is Vivo who sold almost 63.2 million units securing the 3rd place. These figures just show that the smartphone market in China still remains to be viable as has grown to almost 11.4 percent from 2015-2016 alone.

Even if Xiaomi out-ranked Apple, the company is still set on strengthening its marketing strategies and focusing its advertising efforts in Hong Kong and China. Apple is still optimistic that there will be improvements in the coming 2nd quarter and consumers in China have high expectations in the coming 10th Anniversary of the Apple iPhone. Let us wait and see.
