iOS 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak Update: EvasiOn 1.1 Installed By 7 Million People, Already The Most Popular Jailbreak Of All-Time, Works For Devices Like iPhone 4S, 5, iPad (PHOTOS/ VIDEO)

It's been less than a week since the evasiOn jailbreak was released to the public worldwide, but nearly 7 million people have already accessed the new jailbreaking tool for iOS devices.

EvasiOn allows Apple owners to free devices like the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPad and iPad mini and more people have done so than ever before according to Forbes.com.

Cydia administrator Jay Freeman spoke to Forbes on Feb. 7 and stated that the tool is drawing record numbers, and is on pace to destroy the numbers accomplished by previous jailbreaks combined. iOS 5.1.1's RedsnOw was the last successful jailbreak to be released to the public before evasiOn according to Forbes.

In comparison, 500 million iOS devices have been sold according to Apple. Approximately 300 million of those devices run on iOS 6 or higher.

"As of Thursday night, Freeman's alternative app store had received visits from 5.15 million iPhones, 1.35 million iPads, and 400,000 iPod touches that were jailbroken with evasi0n, the first jailbreaking software for the iPhone 5 and iOS 6.1," said Forbes after interviewing Freeman this week.

The article even pointed out that evasiOn has attracted more people in just a few days than 2011's Jailbreakme3, released by Comex, attracted in nine days online. Jailbreakme3 saw 1.4 million downloads during that time period according to Forbes.

Cydia's administrator did acknowledge that it took a lot longer for an untethered jailbreak to be released to free the iPhone 5 than it did to free the iPhone 4S in the interview, but he blamed that on Apple's iOS 6.1 for getting in the way of progress.

The evad3rs team had broken through Apple's iOS 6 weeks ago, but they decided to wait to release their work to the public until 6.1 was put out. Once Apple finally made the upgrade available, all the team had to do was change a few things before evasiOn was ready to be released.

"That's what made this such a landmark jailbreak," said Freeman in the interview with Forbes. "It had been so long and we were all so hungry for it."

EvasiOn is the first untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5, but the team released evasiOn 1.1 after a number of bugs were causing issues to users who downloaded the much anticipated tool. Problems that were occurring include reboot issues and problems with the weather app according to CNet.com.
