When Swiss clockmaker TAG Heuer released the Connected smartwatch, it was met with a surprise success, especially during the time when the smartwatch industry is experiencing a decline. Banking on this runaway success, the luxury clockmaker is once again dipping its toes into the tech industry with a rumored new Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch.

Rumors claim that TAG Heuer is preparing to release a new smartwatch in March. This upcoming timepiece will be the successor to the TAG Heuer Connected which hit the market in 2015.

Called the TAG Heuer Modular, the smartphone will run on the Android Wear 2.0 platform. Despite the popularity of the Apple Watch, TAG Heuer has made its name in the Android smartwatch industry. Rumors have it that the upcoming Modular smartwatch will feature a hybrid design.

A source familiar with the matter told Android Central that the TAG Heuer Modular sports a unique set of features that will make it stand out of the rest. Aside from running on the new Android Wear 2.0 platform, the smartwatch is also expected to feature a fully customizable lug coupled with a handful of strap options.

What is even more interesting is that the TAG Heuer Modular is said to feature a custom automatic watch head module which will allow users to switch between digital Android Wear 2.0 body and the more traditional automatic clockwork.

This is a very nifty feature as it allows users to switch to an analog watch once the smartwatch drains its battery. Moreover, it will allow users to customize the watch in order to fit their personal taste without compromising the features of the device.

According to Phone Arena, the TAG Heuer Modular will be released on March 14. Despite these rumors, some tech analysts said that it should be taken with a grain of salt as TAG Heuer has yet to officially confirm or deny the existence of the smartwatch.
