Samsung Galaxy S8 Latest Updates & News: No More Home Button, More Battery Energy?

The South Korean company is taking their chance to get their phone business back on track after the drama of recalling 3 million Galaxy Note 7 phones after numerous Notes caught fire. Although Samsung’s profits are through the roof, their latest flagship the Galaxy S8 will need to make up the $5 billion it lost on the Note 7, and that’s not counting any impending lawsuit.

According to Forbes, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will start at $950 and $1050 after a currency conversion. The Galaxy S8 has a $100 premium over the last year’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung is offering only three color finishes at launch. They are Black, Gold or Orchid Gray, but Samsung usually offers more finishes a few months after launch. Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will come with massive 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch displays respectively.

According to Cnet, Samsung will perform an eight-point battery test on their latest Samsung Galaxy S8. The phone will also have more space inside, for the battery. On the outside, it seems that Galaxy S8 will toss the home button, including the fingerprint reader. It is rumored to use an optical sensor that lives beneath the display. It is believed that the fingerprint reader will be on the back of the phone, as there are some leaked images of a Samsung-made case that has a cut-out on the back. It is also rumored that the Samsung’s S8 phones will be the first ones equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip.

The new chip promises faster speeds, better battery savings, and better graphics than the last year’s 820 and 821. On top of that, there will be bigger batteries for both models. The Galaxy S8 will come with 3,250mAh battery, and the Galaxy S8 Plus will come with a 3,750mAh battery.

Samsung also confirmed that the Galaxy S8 won’t be launched at the Mobile World Congress event in Spain. But Samsung is not going to show up empty handed. It is rumored that the company will reveal the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. April 14 or April 18 are rumored to be the sale dates for the new Samsung Galaxy S8, which should give customers time to preorder the phone before it ships.
