A hoax website made news this week after claiming Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton broke both of his legs in a car crash. This report has been proven false however, as an accident involving Newton never took place.
"No truth to any twitter rumors that Cam Newton was in a car accident," according to the Panthers PR Twitter account.
The original report claims Newton broke both of his legs in a traffic altercation according to a spokesperson for the Carolina highway safety authority. The report stated Newton had to be transported by an ambulance to a local Carolina hospital for treatment.

The fake "accident" occurred according to Global Associated News when a 76-year-old female driver of a 2010 Audi failed to stop at a red light before hitting Newton, who the report claims was driving a 2012 BMW.
The website is known for creating fake stories to generate traffic, and admits their wrongdoings at the bottom of their site in small, fine print.
"FAKE... THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes! this story was dynamically generated using a generic 'template' and is not factual. Any reference to specific individuals has been 100% fabricated by web site visitors who have created fake stories by entering a name into a blank 'non-specific' template for the purpose of entertainment."
Panther fans, including the kid from the Play 60 commerical which Newton starred in, no longer need to hold their breath, as the star QB hasn't damaged anything this offseason. If the news had been true however, it's doubtful Newton would have been the same player ever again.
Newton, a former Heisman Trophy winner, was taken as the first pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and is known not only for his passing ability, but his knack for breaking tackles, running for first downs and touchdowns using his incredible speed. Two broken legs would have forced Newton to virtually become a different player after a long recovery.
In 2012 Newton was named both AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year. He also set an NFL record in his rookie season by rushing for 14 touchdowns, the most for a quarterback ever.
