British automaker McLaren recently revealed details regarding the engine of the company's upcoming supercar, the P14. It would appear that at the heart of the McLaren P14 supercar is an equally powerful 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine called simply as M840T.

McLaren did not confirm the actual power rating of the M840T engine. However, the company did confirm that the engine is capable of powering the P14 from zero to 124mph in just 7.8 seconds. Compared to outgoing 650S, the new model is 0.6 seconds faster and a 0.1 second quicker than the 675LT, according to Car Throttle.

The new M840T engine is equipped with two "ultra-low inertia" twin-scroll turbochargers. This pair of turbochargers almost eliminate lag and speed up throttle response. All these technologies packed under the hood of the McLaren P14 allows the supercar to complete a quarter-mile distance in just 10.3 seconds. To put that into perspective, the McLaren P1 hypercar can complete the same distance in just 9.8 seconds. That is just a difference of 0.5 seconds between a P1 that costs $1 million and a conventional supercar.

Aside from an all-new engine and chassis, McLaren confirmed that the P14 will also integrate the company's new exhaust system which it describes will provide "a soundtrack to match the extreme performance of the engine." An optional Sports Exhaust is also available, which should add more roar to the engine.

Another interesting optional upgrade is an illumination package. By integrating this spec into the McLaren P14, the engine bay of the supercar will light up when the car is unlocked, according to Motor Trend. It does not add any performance upgrade, but it is a nifty feature and it sure does look good.

The McLaren P14 is expected to make its debut at the upcoming Geneva International Motor Show which is expected to open its doors on March 7. McLaren has yet to reveal the official price of the P14.
