The 2017 Ford Ranger FX4 Special Edition has recently been announced by the blue oval, hoping to add spice to the Australian market. This beefed up vehicle mainly received a "black pack" makeover complete with bespoke highlights.
CarsGuide Australia reports that Ford Australia has released details and specifications including the price and estimated release date of the special edition pickup from the Blue Oval. Graeme Whickman, President and CEO of Ford Australia, said that they designed the 2017 Ford Ranger FX4 Special Edition for their bolder customers and for those who make use of the towing and payload capabilities of the Ranger XLT.
This is because the Ranger FX4 Special Edition was based on the XLT double cab model. It's as if Ford's pickup went to the gym and took seriously its workout routine. In the end, it now looks tougher than ever with an additional blacked-out visual makeover.
This beefed up pickup is still powered by the same 3.2-liter turbodiesel 5-cylinder engine producing around 197 horses or 147 kW of power and approximately 347 lb-ft of torque or 470Nm. Buyers have the option of mating the engine with a six-speed automatic or manual transmission.
There are four exterior colors available for the 2017 Ford Ranger FX4 Special Edition. These include Frozen White, Ingot Silver, Shadow Black, and Magnetic (gray). But the latter 3 of these finishes come with cost options.
Ford's beefed up pickup is fitted with 18-inch Stark Grey alloy wheels. The bonnet and tailgate decals, roof rails, sports bar and rear bumper, side steps and door handles, and front grille have been blacked out.
The black accents of the Ranger FX4 continue inside with "FX4" logo, leather-accented seats and custom front and rear carpet mats. Standard equipment from the XLT also made it to the 2017 Ford Ranger FX4 Special Edition such as the Sync3 infotainment system. It also comes with an 8-inch central touchscreen with sat nav and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
According to Car Advice Australia, pricing for the 2017 Ford Ranger FX4 Special Edition Double Pickup 3.2L (manual) is $58,915. Meanwhile, the automatic is at $61,115. This pricing estimate is before on-road costs and is basically $3500 higher compared with the XLT models.
The 2017 Ford Ranger FX4 Special Edition will arrive in dealerships later this month. This new FX4 variant is new to Australia and this special edition doesn't feature the Torsen limited-slip rear differential, Bilstein shock absorbers, and skid plates.
