The Korean automaker is currently developing a compact crossover vehicle to which reports claimed to be called Hyundai Kona. However, the brand has not confirmed if they will make this tag as the official name of the automobile.

The Names. At present, the compact crossover development project codenamed as OS. The aim of such comprises of the creation of a new small crossover vehicle that can be named by the brand as the all-new Hyundai Kona, reported Hyundai Blog. This name was said to source from a district on Hawaii that is commonly known for its coffee.

The guesses for the vehicle's official name was Kona since Hyundai was reportedly fond of calling their models after famous locations to avoid any controversies that the names cold cause from people in different countries. In fact, the Santa Fe model got its name from a town in Marin County, California.

The Specs. According to Drive Spark, the Hyundai Kona will borrow its engine features from the Hyundai i20 vehicle. It will have a 1.0L turbo petrol engine that can deliver 118hp as its powertrain. It will also share some equipment found on the i20 and that of the Hyundai Creta SUV. Therefore, the upcoming small crossover SUV will be an entry-level model to cost around Rs 12lakh possibly.

The vehicle will face tough competition by the time it releases as models such as the 2018 Chevrolet Trailblazer, 2018 Dodge Durango, 2018 Jaguar F-Pace Crossover, 2018 Infiniti QX80, 2018 Nissan Murano, and the Dodge Ford Expedition had already been featured at car shows. Therefore, they had reach consumers earlier than Hyundai's. 

The Hyundai Kona will be introduced as a 2018 model and join the three SUVs of the brand, Tucson, Santa Fe, and Creta, in the SUV market. In fact, it will also harbor the HND-14 Carlino Concept applied to models such as the new Hyundai i30 and the Hyundai Tucson SUV.
