Spotted! Kia K2 Surfaces From Production, Compact Crossover Joins B-Segment

The brand new Kia K2 compact crossover surfaced in china this week. It has been found that the model will be sold as part of the local B-segment. Furthermore, the updated features were inspired by the subsisting Kia Rio model.

Last year, the Korean automaker announced that the Kia K2 sedan was under development. Since the Kia Rio vehicle had faced hot weather challenges in Asia which resulted to uncomfortable passenger experience, the brand developed the latest K2 model. In fact, the developments included improved body kits such as making it 1.75 wide in height and 1.50 meters high. The said roomier feature was the brand's way of making the passenger experience under the hot sun more comfortable, reported Auto Week.

The Chinese version of the model was inspired with the Russian analog of the Rio model which was initially sold in the automobile market last 2011. In fact, the sedan's K2 new generation platform first appeared as a hatchback which has similar features to the Rio.

The model will be powered by a 1.4L or 1.6L engine that can generate 100 and 123 hp, respectively. Furthermore, its six-step automatic manual transmission will have a front-wheel drive feature installed with a rear bumper, shotgun exhaust system, and improved powerful turbo engine.

In other news, Naza Kia - Malaysia reported that the all-new Rio Sedan, another name lodged at the Kia K2 model, will be available for purchase at a minimum base price of RM 75,888, inclusive of 6% GST. With respect to its comfort features, the model has a keyless entry remote control folding key and a glove box that has illumination. Furthermore, its safety features include the electronic stability control, rear parking sensor, and 6 airbags system.

The all-new Kia K2 model was spotted in China. The model had been apparently modified to cater a more comfortable driving experience after Rio consumers claimed the vehicle to be less-preferable under the scorching sun.
