When Razer introduced their updated 14-inch Razor Blade laptop in September of last year, they equipped it with Nvidia GeForce 10 series graphics and Intel Skylake processors. But now, the famous gaming hardware brand decided to upgrade to Intel's newest seventh-generation Kaby Lake processors.
This new variant of the Blade trades out the Skylake Core i7-6700HQ for a Kaby Lake Core i7-7700HQ. Although the two processors are very similar, Kaby Lake model is set to 300 MHz higher, with a 2.80 GHz base clock a 3.80 GHz boost clock, compared to a 2.6 and 3.5 GHz previously. This upgrade will give a minor performance improvement in CPU-limited workloads.
The Kaby Lake processor equipped laptop will have a 16GB of faster 2,400MHz DDR4 memory, and a matte 14-inch IPS 1,920x1,080-resolution display which is different to its high-resolution 3,200x1,800-pixel touchscreen. It will also have a 4K UHD touchscreen option, along with a full HD screen.
The company said: "The latest generation of 7th Gen Intel Core i7 quad-core processor in the new Razer Blade is more powerful and more efficient than last year's model. The powerful CPU of the new Razer Blade achieves double-digit increases in productivity benchmarks and is paired with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics to deliver the best frame rates available in an ultra-thin laptop. The performance of the new Razer Blade is matched by its light weight and durability. Measuring only 0.70 inches thin, it weighs a little more than four pounds and is housed in a unibody CNC aluminum chassis."
Furthermore, the upgraded laptop will have on USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 and three USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI 2.0 video and audio output, and a 3.55 mm headphone/mic combo jack. The laptop weighs around 1.86 kgs and the size measures 345x235x17.9mm.
The upgraded Razor Blade laptop is $100 more expensive compared to its forerunner.The new 14-inch Blade starts at $1,799 in the United States and £1,899 in the UK. The full HD version is now offered on the company's site and other selected US retailers from February 20.
