Lexus IS: New Line Of Entry Level Luxury Vehicles Set For 2014 Release, IS 250, 350

Lexus is constantly looking for ways to improve their company and for new ideas to raise the bar for compact luxury. The latest line of Lexus luxury IS vehicles were on display for the first time at the 2013 North American International Auto Show this week.

The company is hoping their new line of vehicles, which features the IS 350 and IS 250, to boost sales which were better in 2012 compared to the previous year, but still nowhere near where the company wants to be.

U.S. sales rose to 244,000 in 2012, mainly thanks to new or refurbished vehicles. The company didn't show improvement in other areas however. IS sales fell around 6 percent in 2012, as they only sold 27,700 models.

The two new IS vehicles will be in dealerships by 2014. A price has yet to be revealed for the two models, and they probably won't be released until closer to their release date.

"To be competitive in this segment, you have to have a great-looking car that's fun to drive and offers a true luxury and a value proposition, and the IS delivers them all," said Mark Templin, group vice president and general manager of Lexus according to the Associated Press.

Rear- and all-wheel drive options will be available for the IS 250, which are powered by 2.5-liter, V-6 gasoline engine. The 350 meanwhile features a 3.5-liter, v-6 engine.

Lexus also revealed at the auto show that the hybrid IS 300h will be available in Europe, Japan and other select markets, but not the U.S. Lexus stated that they may consider selling the hybrid version if sales don't go as expected in the U.S. for the IS 350 and IS 250.

Inside the vehicle will be unique to those who are used to past models, as the IS 350 and IS 250 will feature a longer wheelbase, to offer more interior and trunk space. Rear seats also fold down to provide more cargo space according to the Associated Press.
