iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak Update: Are Hackers Close To Unlocking iPhone 4S, 5 Devices? (PHOTOS/ VIDEO)

Apple users hoping to jailbreak their iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 devices received some more good news this week, as two more hackers have agreed to join David Wang, who goes by the Twitter handle planetbeing, and Cyril Cattiaux, who goes by the handle pod3g.

Nikias Bassen, known as Pimskeks on Twitter, is one of the two hackers confirmed by the International Business Times this week. Bassen, the respected developer of the Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak, took a break from the hacking world recently, but was convinced to join in the long over-due quest towards creating a successful untethered jailbreak for the latest Apple products.

The latest developments towards an untethered jailbreak is going well according to pod2g, as the team seems to have made significant progress towards creating a public release of the jailbreak. There is no time table currently set for the jailbreak's release, though it's not unrealistic to think it could be out by spring.

"Tons of progress the last few days," said Wang on Twitter. "I think the future is looking bright for jailbreaking."

There are also rumors though that the team could hold off on the public release of the unlock until after Apple releases iOS 6.1. If they do, they would only have to make some minor adjustments to the work they've been doing now to make it compatible.

During the interview, planetbeing claimed that by releasing an untethered jailbreak before Apple releases iOS 6.1 it could causes issues for many users. Instead he's decided to wait until 6.1 comes out, and is planning on adding a few more exploits that could create an untethered jailbreak for 6.1 instead.

Apple is set to release iOS 6.1 within the next few months.

The release of an untethered jailbreak was revealed when planetbeing conducted a Reddit conversation a few weeks ago. During the interview, he stated that he was able to jailbreak his own phone, but was holding back on releasing the program for other users to download until Apple released 6.1.
