World of Warcraft gold and WoW tokens can now be used to redeem a new currency called "Battle.net Balance." This new money will allow players to purchase things for other Blizzard games.
WoW. The "World of Warcraft," commonly known as "WoW," is one of the most successful Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPG) in history. Blizzard Entertain first released it in 2004. It has had a total of six expansions since its release, namely: The Burning Crusade (January 2007), Wrath of the Lich King (November 2008), Cataclysm (December 10), Mists of Pandaria (September 2012), Warlords of Draenor (November 2014) and Legion (August 2016).
Battle.net and WoW Tokens. Battle.net, an online gaming platform developed by Blizzard Entertainment, supports several games. This includes Diablo III, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, Overwatch, StarCraft II, and World of Warcraft. In 2015, WoW Tokens officially became a thing. These tokens could be purchased with WoW gold and could redeem 30 days of game time.
Eurogamer reported that in Europe the tokens first launched for 40,000g and stayed there for months. In 2016 the price doubled to 80,000g when gold was easier to farm. With the latest expansion which released in August 2016, the price soared and began selling for over 100,000g.
WoW Tokens now earn around $15 Battle.net Balance. If purchased with "real" money, it costs $20 if bought from Blizzard. A WoW Token can also be purchased in-game at the Auction House paying with in-game gold.
Battle.net Balance. With the introduction of the new system, WoW tokens just got a lot more interesting. Polygon reported that players can now convert their WoW gold into Battle.net credit called Battle.net Balance. The Battle.net Balance is available for WoW as well as other games, such as Overwatch and Hearthstone.
The World of Warcraft remains to have a big player-base, but not the same as before during the glory days of "vanilla" WoW days and with the Burning Crusade expansion. While some may argue that the game has gotten too easy and lost most of its appeal, a lot of players remain loyal to the video game. What do you think about WoW and the new Battle.net Balance system?
