A New York woman wearing only an unzipped jacket was charged with driving while intoxicated after she crashed into a wall in New Jersey and fled the scene before later being pulled over by a police officer.
A resident of Grove Terrace in the Lake Mohawk section of Sparta, N.J. alerted police around 12:53 a.m. that a white Volkswagen Jetta had crashed into a nearby stone retaining wall before leaving the scene according to a report by The Daily Record.
Officer Joseph Pensado was nearby on routine patrol when he saw the vehicle a little later on and conducted a motor vehicle stop. After approaching the vehicle, he found 36-year-old Catherine Giaquinto of Warwick, N.Y. only wearing an unzipped leather jacket according to The Daily Record.
The officer then spoke with Pensado about why she was driving nude, when she denied being completely naked. After noticing damage to the front fender and driver's side of the vehicle, Pensado suspected she was under the influence of alcohol.
Giaquinto could barely respond to the officers questions, and it took her 10 minutes to get her clothes back on, most of which she put on inside out or backwards, so Pensado could conduct a sobriety test.
Due to the high level of alcohol in her system, she was un-able to even stand up straight and listen to the officer's instructions. The test was then canceled, and Giaquinto was placed under arrest shortly after according to The Daily Record.
While at the police headquarters, Giaquinto started to become agitated and refused to take a breathalyzer test. Officers made her take one, before charging her with a number of different offenses, including driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, and refusal to submit a breath test.
