Mercedes-Benz used the 2017 Chicago Auto Show to showcase their life-size toolbox on wheels, the Mercedes-Benz Metris MasterSolutions Toolbox concept. One look at the concept vehicle and you will get what message Mercedes-Benz is trying to tell the world: Luxury vehicles are not their only specialty and the Metris can be versatile.

The Mercedes-Benz Metris MasterSolutions Toolbox concept was made to highlight the company's MasterSolutions program. This specific program allows their customers to order "upfit" the Metris and Sprinter vans for commercial use.

RENNtech built the concept van, a company highly known for tuning AMGs, according to AutoBlog. They also built last year's Mercedes Sprinter Extreme Concept that too appeared at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show.

Let's check out the vehicle's powertrain before we get to the real juicy bits of its exterior. Well, for one, it has been left untouched. The Mercedes-Benz Metris MasterSolutions Toolbox concept is still equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, driving the rear wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Basically, its engine can produce 208 horses and 258 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes-Benz claims that its 0 to 60mph can be accomplished in 9.0 seconds. And it can haul 2,500 pounds of payload and tow more than 5,000 pounds.

Its flashy exterior might be the exact opposite of its toned down interior. On the inside, it has a range of shelves, racks, and of course, the removable cases, reports CNET. These are from a few of the companies that are part of the MasterSolutions program. Two of these companies include Ranger Design and Knapheide.

The Mercedes-Benz Metris MasterSolutions Toolbox concept has a tile floor that is not only grippy but also is easy to clean. And the driver side is partitioned by plastic from the cargo area.

And now for the best part, the exterior. The Mercedes-Benz Metris MasterSolutions Toolbox concept is basically, as the name implies, a massive toolbox with wheels. It is complete with a giant handle and latches. Imagine that. The highlight of this decked up concept vehicle is its flip-up panel on the driver's side. It reveals the full workbench where the removable shelves and cases are located. However, the flip-up feature will not make it to production.
