Tesla has finally upgraded its mobile app after almost four years. It now features a redesigned UI, touch ID, and widgets. It is available for the Model S and Model X electric vehicles and will soon be available for the Model 3.
The Silicon Valley electric car manufacturer is well known for their state of the art cars that come with cutting edge technology. However, their mobile app was outdated and was in need of a serious overhaul.
First released in 2012, the mobile app's basis was an outdated iOS 6 design. Electrek reported that before its release over the weekend, the Silicon Valley company jumped the gun by updating its Google Play store photos. However, the photo update was done accidentally and deleted shortly after that.
Mac Rumors has reported that the Tesla mobile app has already come for Apple. The iPhone app now has a completely revamped user interface as well as Touch ID support for quicker access to keyless driving.
Overall, the aesthetics are much sleeker, and a trio of shortcuts on the main screen allow for more immediate access to frequently used controls and settings. A more detailed version of the "Climate" menu is now available as well. Also, a new "Today" widget found in the Notification Center allows users to monitor the status of their electric vehicles at a glance. The company's latest Referral Program is also available on the splash page.
In other related news, Business Insider reports that the Silicon Valley company's latest electric vehicle, the Model 3, will launch as scheduled. The $35,000 mass-market Model 3 will officially begin production in a few weeks' time. It will officially launch in late 2017 and fulfill all 373,000 pre-orders through 2018. Those who availed of the pre-order paid a downpayment of $1,000 pre-order fee for a 2-year wait.
