The latest promotional video from Microsoft on Cortana features the PC and what looks like an Android OS device. Although the focusing device was the PC, the Android smartphone was given a few seconds of screen time.
Microsoft virtual assistant Cortana on the PC and Android. Virtual assistants appear to be the "in" thing these days among tech companies. Apple has Siri, there's the Google Assistant, Amazon has Alexa, and Nokia has been reported to be working on Viki.
The promotional video for Cortana shows a man going about his everyday tasks with the help of Cortana. From scheduling errands to settings reminders, the virtual assistant from the Redmond-based tech giant appears to be more than capable of handling these requests and more. Simple questions such as the time of the sunset at Dominica have answered right away.
The ultimate virtual assistant is one that is present on every device. That is apparently what the company wants to aim for Cortana with the company making Cortana available on every possible Windows platform from the PC down to the Xbox One gaming console. Having already achieved this already, the tech giant is looking to conquer other devices such as those running on the Android OS and even Apple's iOS.
Given that the Android OS is the leading and most popular mobile operating system in the world, it is not at all surprising for Microsoft to make Cortana available on it. Cortana has the ability to sync between devices. So the virtual assistant will only be as useful as one would expect it to be so as long as you also use it on a Windows 10 desktop or laptop device.
A feature of Cortana apart from the regular schedule-keeping and inquiry-answering tasks is the ability take note of things promised in emails which usually end up being forgotten. These things are promises of a reply, a follow-up email, or a scheduled meeting. This stand-out particle feature is all thanks to the company's deep machine learning technology.
