Grand Theft Auto IV is now playable on Microsoft's Xbox One. This is made possible via the gaming console's backward compatibility program.

Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox One. Aside from the game itself, GTA 4's two standalone downloadable content (DLC) episodes are now also playable on the Xbox One. All releases of GTA 4, The Lost and Damned, and The Ballad of Gay Tony are supported by the gaming console regardless of if you owned them digitally or on a disc.

If one owns the game digitally on the Xbox 360, the game will now appear on the Ready to Install section of the game library. Game disc owners on the other hand just need to insert the game disc into the Xbox One and download the game. If one doesn't own the game and its standalone episodes yet, it is available on the Xbox Store to download for US$20.00 or £18.00.

Rockstar Games, the developer of Grand Theft Auto IV, has confirmed that saved games can be carried over to the Xbox One. This is possible so as long as they were uploaded to the Xbox Live Cloud from the Xbox 360.

Grand Theft Auto IV was originally released in 2008 on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Its release was followed by the standalone episodes and a compilation game called Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty which is also available to play on the gaming console.

Other games recently made available to play on the Xbox One via the backward compatibility program are Shadows of the Damned, Lego Indiana Jones, and Rocket Knight. Over 300 Xbox 360 games are now playable on the Xbox One.

Even if the game is 7 years old, it is still worthwhile to play. GTA 4 is known for interesting in-game features that Rockstar Games decided not to include in its successor such as heavier car handling.
