After months of speculation, Chevrolet has finally released the first look at its Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R race car. It's a GT4-spec race car based on the sixth-generation Camaro.
According to reports, this Camaro GT4.R will most likely be related to the Camaro ZL1 road car in some ways. The race car is being developed by long-time Chevy motorsport partner Pratt & Miller.
This will replace the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28.R racer in several events like the Pirelli World Challenge and the IMSA's Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. Not only that, but the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R race car will also be eligible for global GT4 competition.
Unlike the ZL1, this race car will not be powered by a supercharged V8 engine. However, the replacement will be a naturally-aspirated 6.2 liters unit.
According to reports, the engine itself features dry-sump lubrication and is paired with a 6-speed, paddle-sighted Xtrac sequential transmission. There are also a few more upgrades including a Xtrac limited-slip differential.
Aside from those, Chevrolet also teased adjustable Ohlins coil-overs, 6-piston Brembo monoblock calipers on the front axle. It will also feature an aggressive downforce package which boasts a new rear wing, new splitter and dive planes at the front.
An actual photo of the car has not been released yet. However, Chevy released a rendering and a teaser video on Wednesday morning. In the video, fans can hear the race-spec version of the Camaro SS's 6.2-liter V8 engine paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox by Xtrac.
Fans are also excited to see what the competition will come up with now that Chevrolet teased a new race car. Due to its surge in popularity, the GT4 has seen plenty of competitors from different automakers including Aston Martin, Ford, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche.
As of now, Chevy has yet to send a confirmation regarding the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R race car's reveal date. In the teaser video, Team Chevy did show that their all-new race car will be "coming soon."
