Python On Plane Wing: Real-Life Snake On A Plane Does Not Survive Two-Hour Flight (PHOTOS/ VIDEO)

A nine-foot amethystine python was trapped under the wing of a Qantas jet during mid-flight this week and its struggle to stay alive while the plane was in the air for nearly two hours was documented by on board passengers.

"The snake was seen by passengers while the aircraft was cruising," Qantas spokesperson Thomas Woodward told the Star. "The most likely scenario is that the snake had taken refuge on the exterior of the aircraft overnight."

It didn't take long for passengers to notice the snake, as a woman saw a head pop up near one of the wings only 10 minutes after the plane was airborne. She reportedly quickly alerted a flight crew member to the window.

The crew decided not to land the plane after being told about the snake. The wind speed during the flight was approximately 400 km/h and the temperature was a minus-12C according to Yahoo.

''It appears as though the snake has initially crawled up inside the landing bay, maybe housed himself in there, and then crawled into the trailing ledge flap assembly," said President of the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association Paul Cousins according to The International Business Times.

By the time the plane landed an hour and 50 minutes later the snake was still tightly attached to the wing. Airport officials have confirmed though that the snake had passed away by the time the plane had landed most likely due to the freezing temperatures.

Officials believe that the snake most likely had taken refuge on the exterior of the aircraft overnight, and no one happened to check the outside of the plane before takeoff.

''The people at the front were oblivious to what was going on but the passengers at the back were all totally focused on the snake and how it might have got on to the aircraft," Robert Weber of Cairns, a passenger aboard the flight, told the Sydney Morning Herald. ''There was no panic. At no time did anyone stop to consider that there might be others on board.''
