2017 GMC Yukon Buyers Guide and Review

The 2017 GMC Yukon is big and powerful. It can fit bigger families comfortably and is fully capable of towing a boat. It is perfect for long family trips and off-road driving.

Pros and Features. The Yukon is a full-size SUV that has very capable towing features. It is based on General Motors' full-size trucks so it is very rugged and suited to towing heavy loads.

It is nice and roomy inside and can seat up to nine passengers. Additional, its standard V8 engine also delivers good power.

Its cabin design is one of the best in its class. Moreover, its two-speed transfer case gives the Yukon the ability to handle off-road terrains expertly.

Cons. Its high cargo floor height makes loading bigger and heavier items more difficult. It is also hard to maneuver this huge car in tight spaces.

Unlike most full-sized SUVs, the GMC Yukon has a smaller cargo room. The nine-seater capacity is only available for its base model.

What's New? The 2017 Yukon gets low-speed automatic braking as well as existing forward collision warning system. Its cooled seats have also been replaced with ventilated seats. Additionally, its rear entertainment system has been updated.

Models. The full-size SUV is available in three models: SLE, SLT, and Denali. Most Yukons have an eight-seater capacity, but there is an optional front bench seat for the SLE trim which can increase the capacity to nine. In addition, second-row bucket seats are also available for the SLT and come stock with the Denali. This will reduce the capacity to seven. There is also a larger GMC Yukon XL but it is not covered in this review.

The SLE includes 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, side assist steps, heated mirrors, and roof rails. Front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, remote keyless entry and ignition, and a trailer hitch receiver also come stock.

Inside the SLE is a tri-zone automatic climate control, front bucket seats, and a teenage driver monitoring system. A navigation system, power outlet, and a good range of tech features are also available.

The SLT offers the same frills as the SLE including its optional Enhanced Driver Alert package and Convenience package. It also has a hands-free liftgate, an auto-dimming driver-side mirror, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Keyless entry and ignition, leather upholstery, and a wireless charging pad are also available.

The range topper is the Denali and it adds a bigger and more powerful engine, 20-inch wheels, and xenon headlights. It also has a Magnetic Ride Control adaptive suspension, a trailer brake controller, second-row bucket seats, and a navigation system.

Verdict. The 2017 GMC Yukon may be too big for a day to day vehicle. However, for those who will require a lot of towing capacity and off-road driving, it is a good choice.
