The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that Maserati is recalling 39,381 Quattroporte, Ghibli and Levante cars, and SUVs for two issues that pose fire risks.

CNET reported that the issue that might cause the fire is an incorrect seat wiring harness layout. It causes the wiring harness to rub against metal on the seat or seat frame assembly. The harness may be damaged even during normal use of the power front seats. In worst case scenario it can cause a short to the ground, which would increase the risk of a fire. All the owners will be notified via first class mail. All vehicles will be inspected, and if necessary the wiring harness will be replaced. The recall is scheduled to begin on March 21, 2017.

On the other side, Auto Week reported of another issue that can cause a fire as well. Maserati recalls 10,879 Quattroporte and Ghibli sedans due to fire risk. There is a potential fuel leak along the fuel line due to the introduction of foreign particles between the metal fuel line and plastic fuel line during the connection process. They cause scratches on the plastic fuel line portion. In worst case scenario it can lead to a fire in the engine compartment or underneath the vehicle.

The proposed fix is to install a new fuel line into the affected vehicles. Maserati has instructed all dealers to not sell any of the affected vehicles until the recall is performed. The Maserati recall is scheduled for 28th of February. There will be new fuel lines installed in all the vehicles. This is not the first time these models have faced recalls.
