The 2018 Dodge Durango is powerful and fast. In fact, it has been recently reported that it can accelerate faster than the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT.

Dodge has revealed that their new Durango SRT can do 0 to 60 mph at a time of 4.4 seconds. Moreover, it can do a quarter mile run for 12.9 seconds.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has stated that their 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT can do 0 to 60 mph at a time of 4.8 seconds. It can do a quarter mile in "the mid-13 second range." This is about 0.4 seconds less than the Durango in the 0 to 60 mph run and about 0.6 to 0.7 second faster for the quarter mile.

According to Motor Authority, Dodge has stated that these figures may be different had the vehicles been tested in similar conditions. Moreover, Dodge has added that the difference could be due to the Durango's extra length. The Dodge Durango's longer wheelbase (5 inches) helps the vehicle achieve a traction and weight transfer advantage during its launch resulting in better acceleration times.

Similar to the Durango SRT, this wheelbase advanced has helped the Charger SRT Hellcat achieve better results for its quarter mile time over that of the Challenger SRT Hellcat when tested. All of the Dodge SRT vehicles were all tested and validated on NHRA-sanctioned tracks for consistency.

The difference could very well lie in the testing procedures. While Dodge's numbers are NHRA certified, the Jeep Grand Cherokee's is not known. This means that the Durango was driven on a dragstrip with perfect conditions on a track with a seasoned drag racer behind the wheel.

The 2018 Dodge Durango SRT is the muscle car for SUVs. It is fast, equipped with sporty and racing features, and is set to hit showrooms later this year. Fox News reports that the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT starts at around $68,000 so the Durango SRT could cost around the same or a little more.
