MCL32 Is Now The New McLaren; MP4 Now Gone

MCL32 is now the new name of the 2017 McLaren and the company confirmed that the MP4 tag name will no longer be used. This McLaren brand has been giving its Formula Car 1 MP4 its tag name since the 80's. Today, McLaren is embracing change as it launches a new name for their Formula One vehicle which will also be seen during the pre-season testing of the Formula One event.

The very first car that carried the previous tag was the MP4. This was raced in 1981 during the Argentine Grand Prix by driver John Watson. According to Motorsport news, the MP4 name which means Marlboro Project Four was made in a citation with the tobacco sponsor Marlboro, who participated in the engineering of the vehicle in 1981. During that time Ron Dennis took over as the chief of McLaren whereby he was previously operating the Project Four Racing.

As reported by Formula 1, the MCL32 name came about due to the departure of Ron Dennis from team McLaren late last year. He was replaced by the new executive director Zak Brown. Brown said that the new name is part of the new freshening and branding image of the vehicle. Aside from the brand new name, viewers and fans will expect a new color scheme for 2017 which will sport the famous orange papaya color.

Be sure to check out these dates as you will be able to check out the vehicles running in the much-awaited Formula One season. For team Renault, the R.S 17 will be launched on February 21 at London, UK; Force India VJM10 on February 2 at Silverstone, UK; Mercedes F1W08 on February 23 at Silverstone, UK; Team Ferrari TBC on February 24 on Fiorano, Italy; McLaren MCL32 on February 24 on Woking, UK and Team Toro Rosso STR12 on February 26 in Barcelona, Spain. Team Ferrari will also launch their vehicle the same time as the MCL32 but there is still no name assigned for their 2017 Challenger.
