Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is one of the most-played games in the world. The most popular map in the history of Counter-Strike has been removed from competitive play. After a complete overhaul, the map Inferno will be played at the next Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major.

World Wide Gaming reported that the Inferno map will be taking the place of Dust2 in the Active Duty maps, and the map will be featured in the next Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major. In the latest game update Valve has also made some other changes. There will be separate Dust2 map group for casual and deathmatch game modes. They have optimized the water materials used in Inferno, Nuke and Aztec maps. They have fixed various spots where C4 could get stuck on different maps. Players can also apply graffiti quickly by pressing and releasing the graffiti menu key. It can be disabled from the graffiti menu via checkbox.

According to Kotaku, Counter Strike’s Dust2 map will still be available in casual matches. It is only replaced by Inferno for tournaments. All the professional teams that are practicing for the upcoming IEM Katowice 2017 tournament, and they will have to be prepared to compete on Counter Strike’s Dust2 replacement. Inferno features a village with narrower streets and busy architecture, a much more needed change than the sandblasted compound that was Dust2.

Counter Strike’s Dust2 was designed by David Johnston back in 2001 as a follow up to the first Dust map. It retained the iconic features like arches, roads, and building trip, but it didn’t overuse them. The layout kept the compact form of the original. Dust2 went to become one of the most loved and played Counter-Strike maps. The removing of the map from the competitive play will help restore the variety to the map pool. There are plenty of CS:GO maps that don’t get the playtime they deserve.
