Though Microsoft is still selling the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL via its online stores, speculations arose that the smartphone brand may get the ax soon. Industry observers have pointed out that a brand new line of smartphones will be filling the void once the Lumia is discontinued. Enter Surface Phone whose arrival is widely anticipated by many.

An image of an unidentified Microsoft phone got leaked online with the caption - Surface Phone. This flagship phone is speculated to replace the Lumia line after its exit from the market. The tech giant's move to deactivate the Lumia Photography Instagram page is one sign that the Redmond firm is slowly killing the Lumia.

This slow death will eventually pave way for a new line of smartphones or Surface Phones. According to Tech Times, the new phone will feature a 5.5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. Another variant, with a wider display, will cater to businesses and professionals.

The Surface Phone will be powered by either the Snapdragon 835 processor or Intel's 14nm Kaby Lake CPU. The consumer and enterprise variants will offer 4GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM with 128 GB of storage, respectively. According to speculations, a third variant is in the works that will have 8GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

The new handset will sport the Windows 10 Redstone operating system. It will support Windows 32 apps to attract business and professional users. It might also feature a ClearBlack AMOLED display, a 20-megapixel rear camera with a Carl Zeiss lens, and an 8MP front camera.

If the speculations about the phone are true, consumers will have a glimpse of the Surface Phone somewhere in the third quarter this year. Its other specs might be based on the Surface Pro tablet with all the productivity-tuned features onboard.
