Lamborghini is about to reveal their new and possibly fastest car yet at the Geneva Motor Show in March. In order to build up excitement, they let a few lucky drivers have a go in a pre-production example at the Imola circuit.

According to Road And Track Lamborghini has extensively tested the Huracan Performante on Germany’s famed Nurburgring track, and it seems their engineers’ efforts have paid off. Most of the car was camouflaged, but some big changes were clearly visible. There is a huge rear wing, more aggressive front end, rear diffuser, and the exhaust system has moved closer to the engine. The new Lamborghini Huracan Performate is faster than Aventador Superveloce, which means it can beat the 6:59-minute mark on the world’s most demanding track. There is also a big chance to beat the Porsche Spyder 918 which has 887 horsepower.

Car Scoops reports that the car weights around 40KG less from its sibling. All the metal components have been replaced which means the saving comes from the new exhaust system which is lighter, while the rest is attributed by the use of a forged carbon composite material throughout the car. The interior is a mix of carbon fiber and Alcantara. It has a digital dash that turns into a giant tachometer.

Huracan Performante will have 5.2 liter V10 that is rumored to have around 625-640 horsepower and the gearbox is updated with faster shifts. The most important new feature of Huracan Performante is the new aerodynamic suit called Aerodynamica Lamborghini Attiva. It is said to work faster and more efficiently than other hydraulically assisted solutions thanks to the adoptions of electronically controlled motors which move the different elements around.

Aerodynamica Lamborghini Attiva has two flaps on either side of the rear wing that can open and close individually, applying downforce to either the right or left rear tire as needed. In summary, the new Lamborghini Huracan Performante will be lighter, more powerful and more expensive, but this car is capable of standing toe to toe with the best supercars around.
