Holiday travel this week could get a little dangerous in certain locations thanks to winter weather conditions that are expected to affect many areas around the U.S. this week. Meteorologists are predicting that locations like New York, Michigan, and Nebraska will be experiencing high winds and heavy snow at some point this week.
"Right now the Great Lakes are getting hit, from Lake Michigan to the east," said Pat Slattery, spokesman for the National Weather Service to Reuters. "The big story for most people is it's going to mess travel up completely."
Pittsburgh is expected to see the most snowfall before New Year's Eve, as meteorologists have said residents should prepare for anywhere between 10 to 18 inches of snow by Saturday. Certain areas in western New York are expected to see close to 14 inches of snow.
A "real big snowstorm" is expected to start in Arkansas and then move north to Maine, leaving close to a foot of snow in places like New Hampshire and Vermont according to Reuters. Iowa, Wisconsin, and Nebraska are also expected to get over a foot of snow.
Over 230,000 businesses and homes were without power as of Dec. 21, after a number of snow and rain storms. The locations affected by storms the most were New Jersey, Michigan, New York, and Wisconsin.

"Salt and the sun is going to be our friend today," Bob Younie, a state maintenance engineer said to Reuters. "I'd like think we're going to get the roads back to pretty drivable conditions."
Close to 325 flights around the U.S. have already been canceled according to a report by FlightAware.com. Cancellations have mainly been for flights that would have crossed the path of the storm before landing.
Deadly winds have impacted many locations as well, including in the Houston, Texas area, were winds caused a tree to fall on top of a pickup truck, killing the driver. A Louisiana man was also killed after a tree fell on his home on Dec. 25 according to The New York Daily News.
