Nintendo President, Tatsumi Kimishima previously discussed that the 3DS hardware will continue to pursue business even though Nintendo Switch is coming. The gaming community obviously sees a different side of the story. Nintendo will soon drop the 3DS hardware just like what they did with the Wii U hardware.
Since Nintendo Switch will more likely be the next big thing on the Nintendo ecosystem, Kimishima opens a possibility of creating a new device to follow the 3DS hardware. The information is too little to discuss, but it hinted a huge possibility. According to a report by Nintendo Life, a Japanese newspaper called Kyoto Shinbun get a quote from Kimishima himself.
"Nintendo president Kimishima is quoted as saying he considers a 3DS successor because he sees a need and market for it," says Dr. Serkan Toto on twitter. He also added that Kimishima hinders himself from announcing the said plan, but he considers creating an entirely new system.
With the 3DS achieved milestone in terms of financial participation, Nintendo clearly wants to pursue new opportunities for the hardware. To recall, Kimishima hinted upcoming developments on the 3DS hardware during the Nintendo Financial Reporting. He also discussed new and upcoming titles from first and third party developers and soon-to-be updates for the 3DS hardware. Probably, Nintendo is in the early stages of planning, perhaps deciding what market to penetrate.
So, if in case the information turns out to be true, a Nintendo Switch Mini or 4DS hardware can be expected in the near future. Well, it depends since Nintendo is still in the Switch bubble.
