The 2017 Range Rover Velar was spotted while undergoing test-drive. Can it compete with its rivals Porsche Macan, Mercedes-Benz GLE and BMW X6?
Spy photos for the new Range Rover Velar are now circulating on the web providing some interesting details on the new car. It seems that the new coupe SUV offers a lower driving position. The photos reveal the new car has lowered roofline than the Range Rover Sport.
It can also be noticed that the new Range Rover Velar appears to have the same size of the Jaguar F-Pace. The new Velar is reportedly sporting a similar lightweight aluminum frame as the latter.

In another report, the new coupe SUV is speculated to be slightly longer than the Porsche Macan. This also suggests that the new Velar will have bigger clearance than the latter.
The 2017 Range Rover Velar is expected to have simplified controls and high-quality cabins. According to Autocar, the design head Gerry McGovern and his team are known for good credentials in terms of good quality interior designs.
The new Velar sports a four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines in diesel and petrol. However, it was also mentioned that the launch model will have the V6 engines from Ford.
Furthermore, the publication speculates that the upcoming Velar might probably be featured as a hybrid version. It was noted that the Range Rover Sport is already a hybrid powertrain with its 340bhp 3.0 SDV6 HEV, but the new Velar is predicted to use a newer plug-in system, probably with the 295bhp four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine.
Meanwhile, the report also specified the potential of the new coupe SUV to sport the 542bhp supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine. If this pushes through, the new 2017 Range Rover Velar could have a clear advantage over the Mercedes GLE Coupe and BMW X6.
