The Honda S2000 hasn't been heard of since 2009 but fans of the vehicle are still hoping for its comeback. There are speculations that Japanese car manufacturer will be bringing back the S2000 in 2018 to the delight of its loyal fanbase.

According to the auto website Car and Driver, the auto company could be working on the return of the S2000 with an updated model. 1999 marked Honda's 50th anniversary and was also the year that the Japanese car manufacturer launched the original S2000. It would make absolute sense to bring the S2000 back next year to celebrate the company's 70th anniversary.
If Honda decides to bring the S2000, fans should expect a big upgrade under the hood as the original needed a much-needed push to the gauge's red line in order to get a full S2000 experience. Car and Driver stated that the Japanese car manufacturer is looking into a twin-charged setup for an engine which is much like the technology Mitsubishi had been exploring.
It makes sense to power the S2000 with a standard turbocharger and an electrically driven supercharger in order for it to provide power at high and low-resolution ranges. In addition, such a setup could yield high fuel economy. Other speculations seem to suggest that the S2000's power output could even reach 325 horsepower which is more than what most would expect from the lightweight roadster.
Car and Driver reported that the new S2000 was originally supposed to sport a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine typically found in the Honda Civic Type R. "Sure, the Type R's 2.0-liter turbo is a great engine. But by 2018, that would be old news. We need to take things forward. As a celebratory model, the sports car must be special, so it must have a new powertrain and a unique chassis," said an unnamed insider.
