Four Shot, Killed On Rural Road In PA, State Troopers Injured (VIDEO)

Four people have been shot and killed on a rural road in Pennsylvania according Pennsylvania authorities.

The shooting occurred for several miles down a road in Frankstown Township where an unknown gunman killed at least one woman and two men. Authorities have not confirmed if the victims were targeted by the shooter.

The gunman was also killed during the shooting, but it is not yet known whether he it was a suicide or not. State troopers reportedly chased the killer down the road and according a report by The New York Times, "exchanged gunfire with the shooter." Multiple state officials were injured by gunfire during the shooting.

One of the troopers was shot in his bulletproof vest and narrowly escaped any serious injures according to a Pennsylvania police spokesman. A second officer was hit by broken glass when his vehicle was fired on according to the report.

Since the gunman is dead, it was determined the public was not at risk, but local schools were placed in a lockdown according to Mark Schroyer, township supervisor.

The shooting comes only a week after the deadly Connecticut school shooting which saw over 27 people killed, including 20 children.

President Barack Obama and other U.S. officials have discussed on more than one occasion this week that they are considering many options to crack down on gun related crimes in the U.S.

The NRA announced this week that they want armed guards in all schools across the country to protect students in U.S. The opinion has received a mix reaction so far, including from the town where the Connecticut shooting occurred.

"Completely off the mark," said Betsy Paynter, 46, a marketing executive with two children in middle school in Newtown, Connecticut to CNN. "There's a need for security systems but not for someone else to have a gun in the school. It's not what you want your kindergartner to see."

The names of the victims and the shooter involved in the Pennsylvania shootout have not been released yet.
