Square Enix recently announced it will be releasing a special live-action television miniseries based on the Final Fantasy XIV story "The Father of Light". This means the anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake probably won't be released this year.

The much-awaited remake is expected to be released within the year. However, game director Tetsuya Nomura has admitted it probably won't be launched this year.

It will still be shown, though, just on a much later date. In an interview with Famitsu via Gaming Bolt, Nomura released the following statements:

"There are also the annual events - E3 in June, Tokyo Game Show in September, Jump Festa in December - and on top of preparing for the KH concert I'm simultaneously managing things like season two of KHUχ and Dissidia FF, so yes, this year is looking to be fully loaded. I didn't give much information on KH3 or FFVII Remake last year, but I hope I can show you our progress if any events align this year." he said.

"I apologise that there's still some time before I can release them, but there are many other titles releasing this year, and so I'd like for you to please wait for your 'surprise'." Nomura added.

Nomura is also expected to be at the Monaco Anime Game International Conference (MAGIC) on February 18.  This appearance at the MAGIC conference makes fans hopeful for a new reveal about the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Its release date is also expected to be announced at the conference.

Fans are also looking forward to seeing some new gameplay footage - if possible.  At the very least, fans expect Nomura to provide some update on the status of the Final Fantasy VII Remake.  

On the other hand, Square Enix's first ever miniseries live-action television show is set to make its debut on April 16. It will be aired on the Japanese station MBS. It will also make its debut on the TBS channel on April 18.
