A new sportscars is starting to emerge and jointly developing with two of the most trusted car brands, Toyota and BMW. Toyota's model will be made as a successor to the iconic Supra that would likely come as both a coupe and a convertible while BMW's version of the car will replace the Z4 roadster.
Both cars will ride on a brand new chassis that will make an extensive use of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum. As described by insiders of a frame-based format, the chassis will allow each brand to design completely different bodies that will not look anything alike.
The two sports cars will approximately stretch 177 inches long, 72 inches wide, and 52 inches tall. Their dimensions will make them as big as a rear-wheel drive Porsche 911.
The BMW's version of the car will launch features including a two gasoline burning engines designed in-house and a plug-in hybrid drivetrain developed by Toyota. For the Base models, it will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder with a 241 horsepower and 258-foot pounds of torque while the Midrange models will be powered by a turbocharged 3.0 liter straight six tuned to make 335 ponies and over 331 foot-pounds of twist. Lastly, range-topping versions will benefit from a 473 horsepower gasoline and an electric drive train made up of the above-mentioned six-cylinder and a Toyota-supplied electric motor.
Meanwhile, BMW is very secretive about its next Z4. Toyota has given some details that they will have a preview of the upcoming Supra with a close to production concept that will be introduced at the Detriot Motor Show or at the Geneva motor Show this coming March.
Toyota and BMW are scheduled to go on sale globally in 2018, with their sportscar. On the other hand, BMW is expected to launch the model at the Frankfurt auto show in Germany this coming September. The report also claims that Supra will carry a base price of $55,000 which is more than the cost of a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
