The prototype for the upcoming 2018 Hyundai Veloster has made its surprise appearance recently. The mule was spotted while having its test drive and photos are now circulating the web.

The latest spy photos of the Korean car gave a close-up view of the new flagship. Car enthusiasts can note that the new Hyundai Veloster looks less polarize than its predecessor.

The mule had its discrete covers so the other intricate details were not visible in the spy photos. However, it is very clear that Hyundai has retained the three-door design for this new Veloster.

The tail lamps are still not disclosed but the headlight design is visible in the photos. It can be noticed that the previous design was revised to a slender new eye which seems to get its inspiration from the incoming new i30 hatch.

The roofing of the new model still has its predecessor's tapered roofline, which extends to the rear window, on top of the LED tail lamps. Looking at the front bottom, a wide six-point grille can be noticed protruding from the disguise. This new grille is reportedly based on Hyundai's latest "waterfall" grille design, which can also be found in i30.

If the new flagship will not appear at the Geneva Motor Show to be held in March, CarAdvice predicts that the upcoming 2018 Veloster will most likely show up at the Los Angeles Motor Show which is slated in December.

In another report, CarsGuide has noted that the new Veloster's rear-end design looks far different than its predecessor. The 2018 Hyundai Veloster carries more defined horizontal taillights. The publication also mentioned that the central dual exhaust is similar with the existing Veloster Turbo.

The upcoming 2018 Veloster is expected to have an upgrade in its engine. The predecessor has 1.6 four-cylinder engine which can produce 150kW/265Nm in the Turbo model.
