Lincoln has a brand new refreshed Continental and this one is aimed squarely at the heart of the mid-sized luxury sedan market. The 2017 Lincoln Continental comes with a fine design with premium interior and commendable performance.
The 2017 Lincoln Continental's exterior has a certain muscularity about it. A touch grander and fancied up with chrome trim and mighty impressive grill, the new Continental is sculpted with flowing lines and voluptuous proportions, as reported by CarAndDriver.
The most interesting element of the exterior is the door handles. These are built into the chrome strip where a microswitch opens the door when pushed. A super capacitor is housed in the car in case the battery dies. It also allows the driver to open and close the door 20 times. Also, a little hole right underneath the side mirror, just along the car's name, allows you to close and open the door manually with the use of a key.
Inside the door is a release, so drivers or passengers don't get trapped. A spacious rear passenger seat allows occupants to experience a full limousine treatment. It comes with adjustable temperature control, from Cool to Heated seats. Plus, a massage function will make you want to stay inside the car for a little bit longer.
The switch at the rear passenger seat also allows occupants to recline or unrecline the seats. Plus, occupants are able to adjust the front passenger seat, when sitting on the right side.
Meanwhile, 30-way power adjustable front seats come standard to all 2017 Lincoln Continental models. But a $1500 option provides for the "Perfect Position Seating." What's more impressive are 14 door-mounted small switches allowing the passenger to raise, slide, inflate, and heat the cushions and also energize the massage action.
The same Sync 3 infotainment system is mounted on the front and center. For drivers who are not as capable, the sedan is equipped with a 360-degree camera system, automatic parking assist, lane keeping assist, and dynamic cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, among others. The trunk is squarely big with a power-activated trunk lid.
At the core of the car is the top-of-the-line 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 engines capable of producing 400 horses and 400 lb-ft of torque, per MotorTrend. However, there is a little bit of lag as you might expect in a forced induction engine such that if you stab the throttle, it takes a bit before the power rushes in. The available adaptive steering system speeds up the steering at slow speed. It actually reduces the number of turns lock to lock, allowing the driver to make very quick U-turns.
The power from the engine makes its way to the ground via a 6-speed automatic transmission. AWD is available for all 2017 Lincoln Continental models. But with the base 3.7-liter or the 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 engine, FWD comes standard.
Overall, the 2017 Lincoln Continental is a comfortable, capable sedan. The base model is priced at around $45,000, while the top-tier Black Label Continental $80,000. This midsize luxury sedan could be a worthy adversary to Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series.
