The annual Geminid meteor shower is expected to peak Dec. 13 as the night skies will be "free of the moon's glare" for a short amount of time according to Space.com.
Interested viewers should be able see around 50 to 100 or more meteors every hour according to most experts. Space.com is also reporting that an unknown shower could also appear at some point during the night which could make the show even better.
"Meteors from the new shower (if any) will be visible in the early evening, with the Geminids making their appearance later on and lasting until dawn," Bill Cooke, head of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office, said in a press statement.

The Geminid is usually one of, if not the best showers every year as each meteor tends to be slow moving and bright, making each easier to see without large telescopes. The fact that the 2012 shower takes place during a new moon is just icing on the cake for viewers.
In many locations along the east coast, the skies will be dark and the weather will be dry, meaning if you feel like sitting outside, all you'll have to worry about is bundling up to deal with the cold weather. The show is expected to begin late Dec. 13 until around 2 a.m. on Dec. 14.
For the best chance to see the meteors, it is recommended you go somewhere you won't have to deal with city lights.
EarthSky.com recommends going to a state or national park if possible, and if you do don't forget to bring a lawn chair or even camping gear if you plan on staying overnight. Experts claim you won't need binoculars or a telescope to see the Geminid shower.
