The new Mercedes-AMG GT R is supposedly the fastest when compared to competitors. It is even considered faster that the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
A ridiculously fast car from Mercedes-AMG. The 2018 GT R is a 2-door 2-seat sports car that is supposedly faster than the already fast previous model. It is in every way not the GT S. It is especially not as fast as the GT S because it is faster, being able to do 180-degree turns with ease all thanks to a responsive automatic braking system and steering, a great suspension system, and excellent road grip.
Under the hood is where you'll find a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that's able to churn out 577 horsepower and 516 pound-foot of torque. The BorgWarner turbo system in the engine now has bigger compressor wheels. Exhaust ports found in its cylinder heads have been filed to improve flow.
The engine is paired with the basic seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission which is also used on the GT and GT S models. What's changed though is the transmission's ratio with the first gear now a lot taller and the seventh shorter. This change allows it to easily turn tight corners. Of course, the transmission's responsiveness is maintained and not one bit compromised.
Just how incredibly fast is this sports car? It can go from zero to 60 miles in just 3.5 seconds. It technically means that it can reach its top speed of 198 miles per hour in 11.5 seconds.
The quick acceleration is attributed to the enhanced V8 engine, rear-wheel drivetrain and its lightweight body weighing in at only 3,428 pounds. The lightweight body is made possible by use of advanced materials that are also durable and sturdy and moveable aerodynamic elements.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R is priced somewhere around US$199,000. As the retail price is just an estimate, we can expect it to adjust and match to what it will actually be able to offer.
