Police officers responded to a call placed by an unidentified person about a damaged and abandoned vehicle on Dec. 10. Once arriving at the scene, they found a 2011 Nissan Cube parked "perpendicular" to the roadway according to the Associated Press.

Officers towed the car at around 1:30 p.m. from the South Side location after seeing the vehicle had two flat tires, all the airbags deployed, and significant damage to the front of the vehicle.

It wasn't until after already towing the vehicle away that they noticed a pig in the backseat.

The owner of Penelope the pig reportedly lives in Pennsylvania and was visiting friends in Youngstown, OH this week. The woman was not aware that the car and the pig had gone missing under the assumption that her kids took both.

Police notified animal welfare workers after contacting the owner and is still searching for whoever stole the vehicle.

As of Dec. 12, they currently have no leads on who could have stolen the vehicle, why the vehicle was stolen, and if they realized they had taken a pig along with them as well.
