The partnership of BMW and Nissan with EVgo, the electric charging network, has now resulted to an additional 174 new DC Fast chargers in 33 states in the U.S. The team up also envisions to produce 50 more throughout this 2017.
With the aim to promote the adoption of EVs in the U.S., giant automakers BMW and Nissan has confirmed in 2015 their partnership with EVgo to provide more charging stations in the country. Each station features 50-kilowatt DC Fast charging for both the CHAdeMo and SAE Combo (CCS) specs. The former is needed for the Nissan Leaf while the latter powers up the BMW i3.
The additional 174 DC Fast chargers now raised the total number of dual-port DC Fast charging stations of EVgo to 668 across the nation. According to Nissan, the new chargers can be spotted in well-traveled routes like near the restaurants and shopping centers.
Furthermore, JeSean Hopkins, the senior manager of Nissan EV Infrastructure Strategy & Business Development, has released a statement saying they are excited with the current partnership and the progress in the expansion of the public quick-charge stations. Hopkins also emphasized that they value infrastructure as a key strategic priority to proceed with their endeavor to grow the network of dual-port quick chargers all over the country.
Interestingly, the giant automakers seem to excellently provide support to their valued clients. The partnership of BMW and Nissan is targeting to provide easy access for 90 percent of the owners of the BMW i3 and Nissan Leaf to a quick charging station of EVgo, Motortrend reported.
Meanwhile, aside from the partnership with Nissan and EVgo, BMW has also teamed up with ChargePoint and Volkswagen and have installed 95 new DC Fast chargers along the major corridors in the U.S. late last year, Electrek has noted. It seems that the future is really gearing toward the use of full electric vehicles as the number of charging stations are also quickly increasing.
