Dodge revealed last week the things that they did to reduce weight in the all new 2018 Challenger SRT Demon, indicating that the new variant weighs at least 200 pounds less than a Challenger Hellcat. The car is looking good with its new massive 315/40 Nitto NTO5R tires, front and rear, which have been created specifically for the muscle car.
The company announced that the 2018 Challenger Demon will be getting 18x11-inch lightweight alloy wheels all around, which are wrapped in the Demon's new massive tires. It makes the Demon the very first production car ever to wear drag radial from the factory, Dodge confirmed.
In addition, the wheels are smaller in diameter but much wider than the 20x9.5-inch alloys that are equipped on the Hellcat. Demon's 315s are also much better than the Hellcat's 275s. There has been a lot of complaints on the Hellcat about not having enough tires since its release, so adding an extra rubber should allow more power to be transferred to the ground.
With the wider wheels, its new high-profile drags add 3.5 inches of tire width. Dodgers also said that the NT05R was specially designed for the Demon using a new compound and construction.
To help those tires, the Demon gets a new wide-body treatment. Dodge stated that the car's body has been laser cleared and that the chassis is e-coated before the final assembly.
Meanwhile, details about the car's power still remain unknown, but it's believed to be over than 707 HP and 650 lb-ft (881Nm) of torque, developed by the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8, equipped in the Challenger SRT Hellcat. The car can reach 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds from a standstill and can keep going up to 199mph.
On the other hand, a video that was promoting the release of the movie Fast and Furious 8 appeared to show a wide-body Challenger equipped with the Demon logo on the front fender. Dodge is said to release a new teaser with their Demon every week, over the next three months until the car will be ready to launch.
