Tanvas has finally revealed its first Haptic feedback system where the user can actually feel the texture they touch on the tablet. The device was launched in Vegas, at the world's biggest tech event, CES 2017.
Tanvas is the company known for redefining touch by enabling users to feel what could be seen on any the touchscreen. It is adaptable to any virtually touchscreen Smartphone or tablet. From retail, consumer electronics and gaming to advertising, automotive, visual impairment and the arts, the potential application for TanvasTouch are limitless. The TanvasTouch technology would require their screen to send more precise responses when someone touches the screen using electromagnetic pulses.
The company was founded in 2011 by Haptics Pioneers Ed Colgate and Michael Peshkin. The company headquarter is in Chicago. Last 2015, the company received a Chicago Innovation Award. The team revealed that the technology emerged from ten years of research at the Neuroscience and Robotic Lab at Northwestern University, and they finally launched the Haptic Feedback System which uses electrostatics to modulate friction.
The company has designed a touch screen device which would allow the users to feel the texture of the fabric by touching the screen. The digits would bump along a series of horizontal lines making the user feel a tinge of the roughness of sandpaper.
In partnership with Bonobos, an apparel company, the company is showcasing another interesting application. The app showed two pairs of pants, a cotton fabric, and a corduroy, and they let users feel the fabric.
Despite the advances in graphics, vibration, and sound, today's touchscreen is still just a motionless window to the digital world. TanvasTouch unlocks a new level of creative freedom and interactivity without any need for a hand trackers or headset.
Furthermore, TanvasTouch carries a new branch of surface Haptics that brings real-time control of the forces acting between a fingertip and the touch surfaces. This combination of sensing and Haptics on the same level, TanvasTouch is unlike anything in the world.
