Chevrolet Volt Owners Collectively Reach 100 Million Electric Miles, Saved 5 Million Gallons Of Fuel

Chevrolet Volt drivers have jointly driven over 100 million all-electric miles since the vehicle was released this month two years ago according to a press release issued by General Motors. The average Volt driver travels around 65 percent of the time using the pure electric mode that Chevrolet constructed the car for.

Most Volt owners only switch to the gas-powered generator for long trips where they may not be able to charge their vehicle for hours or even days. If you do charge your Volt on a regular basis however, you can go approximately a month and a half, or 900 miles, without having to purchase gas for your car.

"Since my daily driving is all electric, I only really need to buy gas for long road trips," Byrne said. "I drove over 1,900 miles on my last tank of gas."

Chevy has heavily advertised the Volt since being released as means of transportation that won't cost you a fortune at the gas station. Gas prices have soared to an all-time high as of late, and being able to avoid a gas station for over a month and a half could help keep a lot of money in your pocket.

GM has said that based on EPA estimates and the average new vehicle sold in the U.S., Volt owners save around $1,370 a year in gas costs.

"The best sign of a great product is when your customers are the most satisfied in the industry," said Cristi Landy, Chevrolet Volt marketing director. "Volt owners have found the Volt is not only fun to drive, but provides technology and performance where consumers need it most."

On average a typical Volt driver's savings equal 137 movie tickets at $10 a ticket, or nine weeks of groceries at $151 per week. You could also get 228 car washes at $6 a wash with the savings a typical Volt driver experiences.

The Volt comes with an 16.50-kWh lithium-ion battery. If your battery ever dies or if you just feel like switching to the normal gas-powered engine, you can drive another 344 miles on a full tank of gas according to the report.

"My commute is 55 miles round trip, but with the Volt I use 80 percent less gas and save over $150 each month," said Farris Khan from southeastern Michigan. "Plus the Volt is really fun to drive because of its instant torque; driving anything else feels like yester-tech!"
