A 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II was on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week as part of the company's celebration for the new MKZ and MKZ Hybrid models. The real story however, is that the owner of the 1956 vehicle was none other than the late Oscar-winning actress Elizabeth Taylor.
The car was on display for the media on Nov. 28 through Nov. 29. Click here to see what the classic vehicle looks like.
The car was made for Taylor with a custom paint job to "reflect her violet eyes" and was given to her as a gift by Warner Brothers for her work in the movie "Giant." Each Continental Mark II was handmade according to the Lincoln website, and hoped to achieve a different level of luxury and class compared to any vehicle of its kind.
The Continental included a 386-cubic-inch engine that could achieve 285 horsepower and was constructed under the ownership of Edsel Ford's son William Ford according to The Los Angeles Times. Lincoln charged more than $10,000 for each car which was a lot of money in those days and in the end the company lost over $1,000 for each car sold according to CarConceptz.com.
The model only lasted two years due to poor sales numbers.
The last time Taylor's vehicle was on display was in 1980 when it was awarded the Ford trophy at the Lincoln and Continental Commercial Owners Club national meet according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Six other vintage Lincoln cars were on display at the LA Auto Show last week, including the 1929 Dietrich Convertible Coupe, the 1932 KB LeBaron Convertible Roadster and a 1961 Continental Sedan.
The LA Auto Show was open to the public starting Nov. 30 and runs until Dec. 9.

Taylor isn't the only celebrity who owned a Continental Mark II however, as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Dwight Eisenhower all drove one at some point.
