125 Mile Traffic Jam Has Drivers Stuck For Three Days (VIDEO)

People who drive daily in big cities like New York City or Los Angeles may want to think twice before complaining about their commute next time after a 125 mile long traffic jam took place in Russia for over three days this past weekend.

The backup occurred on the main highway between Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia's two most populated cities according to CNN. The traffic jam was reportedly started due to three feet of snow on Highway M-10 which started Friday and didn't end until Sunday afternoon according to RIA Novosti, Russia's state-run news network.

"Travel remains stop-and-go for a stretch of between 135 and 190 kilometers (84-118 miles) on M-10 in Tver Region. One lane in each direction is clear of snow. Trucks are moving at roughly 5-10 kilometers per hour (3-6 mph)," a representative for the State Automobile Inspectorate said to The Huffington Post.

The report essentially means it took the average vehicle at least 13.5 hours to get through the traffic jam this weekend.

Russian citizens took to social media networks to discuss the ordeal, and reported that cafes and gas stations were increasing their prices while the traffic jam was taking place. Some gas stations even ran out of gas while servicing stuck vehicles according to CNN.

"Drivers help one another and that's it, the problems are on the side of the authorities, there are no gasoline tankers, no water, nothing, we are just stuck here," one truck driver stuck in the 125-mile jam told Russia's 24 TV channel, according to Reuters. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev dispatched traffic authorities for a meeting on the situation on Sunday.

Inflatable tens were set up on the side of the highway for stuck passengers to get food, drinks and to use a limited number of warming stations according to Vibe. The Emergencies Ministry also provided psychological support to help those who were having a hard time dealing with the traffic mess.
